Gov’t reaffirms top priority in coming years

VGP - In 2018 and years beyond, the Government will still consider development and improvement of legal institutions, administrative reform and improvement of the business environment as the top priority.

The Government has reaffirmed the above stance in Resolution No. No. 18/NQ-CP issued following the Cabinet meeting on March 1 this year.

The process requires active review of mechanisms, policies and legal regulations for necessary amendments and supplementation as well as removal of obstacles hindering national development, especially those related to investment and business, planning, environment, and land.

Over the past years, the Government has demonstrated strong determination to accelerated the process with concrete measures, particularly the establishment of the Prime Minister’s working group and economic advisory team.

The Prime Minister’s working group, led by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, is responsible for inspecting the implementation of tasks, especially institutional building and reform of administrative procedures, delegated to ministries, agencies and localities by the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s economic advisory team, consisting of 15 top economic pundits, was formed to assist the Government chief in mapping out long-term strategies to spur economic growth.

Most recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs was assigned propose the establishment of Prime Minister’s task force in charge of inspecting the performance of public duties, which is headed by the Minister of Home Affairs.

Last year, Viet Nam’s competitive index jumped five places to 55th out of 137 economies compared 60th out of 138 economies in 2016 while the business environment ranked 68th out of 190 economies, up 14 notches.

Viet Nam ranked 47th out of 127 economies in the Global Innovative Index, the unprecedented highest performance. 

The Vietnamese Government has pledged to improve the business environment to turn Viet Nam into one of the top attractive markets in ASEAN.

It vowed to continue restructuring the economy, particularly State-owned enterprises, and focus on financial market development in accordance with international standards to ensure that it operate stably, healthily, and conducively to investors.

At present, Viet Nam has joined 12 free trade agreements involving a number of partners, and most recently, Viet Nam and Australia have signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which would open up huge opportunities for investors./.
