Gov’t prioritizes sustainable development

VGP – The Vietnamese Government prioritizes sustainable growth, especially environmental protection and social security, said Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam.

Deputy PM Dam made the point on December 17 in Da Nang City at the conference on “the National Assembly and sustainable development goals.”

According to Mr. Dam, Viet Nam always considers sustainable growth as a requirement and goal in the renovation path. Especially, the country has attained comprehensive achievements including fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), poverty reduction, and improvement of the spiritual live for the community. 

The Vietnamese Government issued the National Action Program to implement the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

Recently, at the 2018 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), the Vietnamese Government presented the Voluntary National Review (VNR) report of Viet Nam. So far, the Government is finalizing the final step to issue a roadmap to implement sustainable growth goals and statistical indicators set for sustainable development.

To successfully realize the National Action Program to implement the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Government will continue to research and submit legal documents to the National Assembly and competent agencies with a view to perfecting the legal system and ensuring sustainable development requirements. 

The Deputy PM also stressed the necessity to combining sustainable development goals with policies, programs, and campaigns. Close cooperation among the National Assembly, the NA’s agencies, People’s Councils at all levels is also of significance to realize international commitments and legal regulations on sustainable growth. 

In addition, according to the Deputy PM, the Government will give a priority to manpower allocation, enforcement of environmental protection regulations in production and business, afforestation, and green growth. 

The leader noticed the need to attach more attention to ethnic minority groups, people in mountainous, far-reaching, island areas to narrow down development gaps; ensure equality for women, children, and vulnerable people./.
