PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had a powwow under the theme “Role of Vietnamese lawyers in judicial reforms, construction of a law-ruled State, economic development and international integration” with the Việt Nam Bar Federation (VBF) this morning in Hà Nội.

Việt Nam Bar Federation was founded at its first nationwide congress on May 10-12, 2009.

It is the socio-professional organization of 5,300 lawyers and 62 Bar Associations.

For one hour, the Government chief frankly answered lawyers’ questions about the Party and State’s policies on encouraging lawyers to take part in legislative activities, nurturing their force, and facilitating their professional activities.

PM Dũng asserted that, the participation of lawyers in drafting bills and ordinances is very essential to have good legal documents.

The PM affirmed that the Government will offer best conditions for lawyers to actively take part in designing bills. He also required the Ministry of Justice to closely shake hands with the VBF in law-making activities.

The Government chief agreed that it is necessary to further highlight lawyers’ role in settling citizens’ complaints and accusations.

Regarding the development of the force of lawyers, PM Dũng said that, on the basis of the Vietnamese Communist Party Politburo’s Resolution on the Judicial Reform Strategy to 2020, which mentions the nurturing of lawyers, the Government will ask competent agencies to expand training scope, upgrade training facilities, improve training quality, and update curricula and teaching methods.

At present, these agencies are drafting the Strategy for Bar Development to 2020. Accordingly, by 2020, Việt Nam will have a contingent of 18,000 professional lawyers, tripling the current figure, including 150 international-standard solicitors.

To better lawyers’ activities in rural and remote areas, PM Dũng stated that the Government has been enlarging the network of lawyers so that locals can easily access to judicial services.
