Gov’t approves COVID-19 vaccine fund

VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a COVID-19 vaccine fund to rally support from local and foreign individuals and organizations for purchase, import, research and production of COVID-19 vaccines.

The fund, directly managed by the Ministry of Finance, welcomes voluntary financial and vaccine aid, assistance and contributions as well as other lawful resources.

The ministry was tasked to run the fund in line with legal regulations in an open, transparent and effective manner.

On May 18, PM Pham reiterated that COVID-19 vaccine purchase is an urgent task that must be immediately carried out.

The Government planned to acquire 150 million vaccine doses to cover 70 percent of the country’s population.

The Southeast Asian country received nearly 2.9 million vaccines doses, including over 2.4 million via the COVAX Facility.

As of 4:00 pm on May 22, Viet Nam administered 1,027,659 doses to frontline workers, of these 28,961 got fully vaccinated./.
