Gov’t Offices of Viet Nam, Laos sign MoU on cooperation plan

VGP – The Government Offices of Viet Nam and Laos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation plan for 2020-2021 period.

The agreement was sign inked by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office of Viet Nam Mai Tien Dung and his Lao counterpart Phet Phomphiphak after their talks in Vientiane capital on July 19.

At the pair’s talks, the two sides briefed each other about recent socio-economic situations in respectively countries and the two Cabinets’ efforts in e-Government development.

The two ministers expressed their delight that the bilateral trade value has surpassed the goal set by the two Government, reaching US$493 million in the first five months this year, up 13.4% compared to the same period last year.

Viet Nam remains the 3rd biggest foreign investor in Laos with 413 projects worth more than US$4.1 billion.

Regarding cooperation between the two Offices, the two ministers reviewed the outcomes of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation plan for 2018-2020.

They agreed to maintain regular exchange of delegations and strengthen the sharing of experience to promptly update and handle issues of mutual concerns.

Both sides also agreed to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to put forward new contents of bilateral cooperation to their high-level leaders.

The Lao Minister-Chairman expects the Government Office of Viet Nam to continue sharing e-government development experience with his country.

*The same day, Dung made a courtesy call on Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, during which the former reported to the host leader the outcomes of his talks with his Lao counterpart.

Thongloun suggested the two Offices continue coordination and exchanges of experience and cadres to promote their advisory role to the two Governments.

He highly spoke of Viet Nam’s initial outcomes in e-Government development, expecting Viet Nam to share experience with Laos in this field and asking the two Offices to build relevant projects in e-Government development.
