Gov’t Chief Holds Phone Talks With Chilean President

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chilean President Sebastian Piñera discussed specific orientations and measures to cement and deepen the Viet Nam-Chile comprehensive partnership over the phone on Thursday.

March 25, 2021 2:19 PM GMT+7

PM Phuc lauded the robust developments in the bilateral ties over the past 50 years, affirming that Viet Nam expects to boost the bilateral ties especially in such domains as economy, trade, and investment.

In reply, President Sebastian Piñera said that Chile attaches importance to the traditional ties with Viet Nam. The President also applauded the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining economic growth pace.

The two leaders were unanimous in continuous measures to further deepen the sides' traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership including exchange of high-ranking delegations, maintenance of cooperative mechanisms, and promotion of multilateral and trans-regional trade frameworks in the context of sluggish global trade posed by the pandemic.

Both PM Phuc and President Sebastian Piñera agreed to strengthen connectivity among respective ministries, sectors, businesses, and localities to uphold and optimize opportunities of the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and Viet Nam which took effect in January, 2014 and jointly cooperate to fruitfully implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) after Chile completes respective ratification process.

They pledged to closely coordinate and conduct activities to mark the 50th founding anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2021 and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, contributing to strengthening ties between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance (AP), serving for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

Earlier, Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Chilean President Sebastián Piñera on March 24 exchanged their greatings on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries./.
