President Sang, who is also Head of the Central Steering Committee on Judicial Reform (CSCJR) made the statement during a meeting between the committee and the Party organization to the Government in Hanoi on August 29. The meeting discussed outcomes in implementing the Politburo’s conclusion on continuing the judicial reform strategy towards 2020.

Under the chairmanship of President Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, participants reviewed the implementation of the conclusion in ministries and Government agencies.

Party Committees of ministries have unceasingly improved the quality and effectiveness of crime prevention and judicial activities and enhanced international cooperation in the field.

President Sang praised the Party organization to the Government for its good performance in judicial reforms and generally agreed with the committee’s plan on judicial reforms.

Speaking at the meeting, PM Dung affirmed that the  Party organization to the Government always attached importance to directing, monitoring and following the implementation of judicial reforms and the committee would do its best to overcome shortcomings in order to improve the effectiveness in realizing judicial reform tasks.

Regarding difficulties in resolving people’s complaints, PM Dung suggested that the CSCJR should enhance the role of administrative courts and capacity of lawyers and non-profit legal consulting organizations to better support people and relevant agencies in addressing the complaints.
He also asked the CSCJR to improve the capacity of judicial evaluation agencies.

For criminal cases, PM Dung suggested the CSCJR study and advise authorized agencies to reduce the number of offenses charged with death penalty while avoiding criminalizing economic cases to ensure the investment environment for economic development.
