Gia Lai province region to become a center of North Central Highlands region

VGP – The Gia Lai province region will be a general economic region, including border-gate economy, agro-forestry and fishery economy, industry, and cultural, historical and ecological tourism in association with the preservation of natural landscapes. 

The Prime Minister has recently approved the task of making planning on the construction of the Gia Lai province region until 2035, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, the Gia Lai province region planning scope covers the whole administrative boundary of Gia Lai with an area of over 15,510 square meters, including 17 district-level administrative units, namely Pleiku city, An Khe township, Ayun Pa township and districts of K'Bang, Dak Doa, Chu Pah, Ia Grai, Mang Yang, Kong Chro, Duc Co, Chu Prong, Chu Se, Dak Po, Ia Pa, Krong Pa, Phu Thien and Chu Pu.

The Gia Lai province region borders Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces to the east; Cambodia to the west; Dak Lak province to the south; and Kon Tum province to the north.

Under the planning, the Gia Lai province region will be constructed and developed into a center of the North Central Highlands region and a dynamic region in the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle area until 2035, vision to 2050, with a synchronous and modern infrastructure system. 

It is forecast that by 2025, Gia Lai’s population will reach around 1.58 million, while the urbanization rate will be 35%. The figures are expected to climb to 1.85 million people and 45%, respectively, by 2035.

The province is expected to welcome about 750,000 arrivals of visitors in 2025 and three million arrivals in the following decade, with the number of tourist arrivals growing at an average rate of 15-18% annually.
