G20 Summit: VN actively joins in addressing global issues

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse will lead a Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to attend the G20 Summit as a special guest and pay a visit to Japan from June 27 to July 1.

June 26, 2019 4:50 PM GMT+7

The visit is made at the invitation of his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.

Viet Nam is one of the eight special guests of the host nation Japan to attend the first ever G20 Summit held in Japan from June 28-29. The Southeast Asian nation made its first participation in the event in 2010 as the Chair of ASEAN.

Earlier at the G20 Summit in 2017, Viet Nam actively participated and made responsible contributions to the summit, which helped upgrade the status of the nation in APEC Viet Nam 2017.

Viet Nam’s participation in the G20 Summit as a special guest is attributed to the special relationship between Viet Nam and Japan and the increasing status of the nation in the world, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam.

Accordingly, key contents will be discussed at the event including global economy, trade, investment, innovation and digital economy, environment, energy, climate change, sustainable development, employment, women and health.

The PM’s attendance to the G20 Summit in Japan affirms the diplomatic guideline proposed in the 12th Party Congress, actively joins and upholds the role at multi-lateral mechanisms to highlight the role, improves quality and effectiveness of the multi-lateral diplomatic works and introduces the image of Viet Nam with dynamic development, and a trusted and responsible partner in the international community.

Fruitful development in VN-Japan relationship

The occasion, PM Phuc will pay a working visit and hold working sessions with Japanese leaders.

In 2009, Japan was the first G7 nation establishing the Strategic Partnership with Viet Nam and also the first nation in the G7 recognizing Viet Nam as market economy.

In May 2016, Japan made first invitation to Viet Nam to attend the expanded G7 Summit.

Japan has been the largest Official Development Assistance (ODA) provider for Viet Nam and ranked second in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country. Japan has been listed among three largest partners in tourism and ranked fourth among biggest trade partner.

The two-way trade value exceeded US$15 billion in the first five months of 2019.

As of the end of May, Japan has poured US$57 billion in 4,149 valid FDI projects in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese PM’s visit to Japan has manifested that Viet Nam attaches importance to the Intensive Strategic Partnership with Japan, contributing to enhancing Viet Nam-Japan relations more comprehensively and practically.
