Viet Nam is the first country granted a licence to export fresh rambutan to New Zealand in 2018

The rate of processed fruit and veggie exports is expected to increase to at least 30 within the next decade.

Vietnamese fruit have won the taste of both domestic customers and those in 60 countries and territories, said General Secretary of the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association Dang Phuc Nguyen.

Dozens of Vietnamese fruits have met stringent standards to enter fastidious markets. Most recently, mango earned permission to enter the US market in February after ten years of negotiation, following dragon fruit, longan, rambutan, litchi and star apple.

Last year, Viet Nam earned US$3.26 billion from exporting fruits and vegetables, a year-on-year decrease of 13%, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Meanwhile, the country spent US$1.29 billion on importing fruits and vegetables in 2020, down 27.5% from 2019./.
