France helps cope with climate change

VGP – The Ministry of Finance and the French Agency for Development on Tuesday signed a credit agreement under which France will provide a €20 million loan for Viet Nam to cope with climate change.

The French Agency for Development and Japan International Cooperation Agency are among the first foreign partners to initiate a program on supporting the Vietnamese Government in this area or SP-RCC.

The SP-RCC was then joined by a number of other development partners like the World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, Korean Eximbank and others.

Since 1994, the French Agency has granted a total of €1,5 billion for 70 projects in Viet Nam, mainly in urban and rural development, transportation and electricity infrastructure improvement reform of the banking sector.

With over 2000 km of coastline stretching between the Mekong Delta in the south and the Red River Delta in the north, Viet Nam is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world with regard to the consequences of climate change./.
