Microfinance activities help to sharply reduce poverty in Việt Nam

This was the first regional microfinance forum, the ever biggest event of its kind in Việt Nam, the country with an attractive emerging microfinance.

Capital mobilization and investment; Savings and increasing assets; Industrial network; Technology and sustainable development were high on the agenda of the Forum under the theme "Microfinance in the 21st century: Future trends and challenges".

The special international event, lasting until August 29, will focus on the latest chances to increase benefits of the microfinance through linkages with the financial system, cooperation and technological applications; discuss challenges and renovations which may have great impacts on the microfinance in the coming decades, opening the door for the microfinance, especially in Asia.

Speaking at the opening reception, former Vice State President Trương Mỹ Hoa stressed that the forum is meaningful for Việt Nam to reach its target of building a wealthy, powerful, equal, democratic and advanced nation. She was confident that the discussions are valuable suggestions to speed up the socio-economic development in Việt Nam.

Việt Nam had sharply reduced its poverty rate from 50% in 1993 down to 14.7% in 2007. She confirmed that the achievements in poverty reduction were attributed to the microfinance activities throughout the country. “Việt Nam always attaches importance to the microfinance activities in its economic development and international integration,” Ms. Hoa stated.

The forum drew the participation of 500 micro-financiers, policymakers, investors, and scholars from over 50 countries.
