First oil refinery ready for its debut

VGP – According to PetroVietnam, the pilot operation of the Dung Quất Oil Refinery has been strictly carried out by investors and contractors, so as to officially produce the first batch of oil on February 21.

The pilot operation was started in May 2008. Most of facilities and workshops have been put into smooth operation.
The Project Management Unit and contractors have successfully used 52,500 tons of diesel and 80,000 tons of crude oil from the Bạch Hổ Field to serve the trial.
Thirteen power stations have been connected and the entire pipe system air-cleaned. Tanks were filled with 800 tons of liquefied petroleum gas. The factory’s torch was lighted.
A 900-strong force are engaging 24/7 in the trial, including 419 engineers and 481 technicians who were carefully trained and selected at home and abroad.
The Management Unite is closely working with the local authorities to ensure safety and security within and around the site.
The refinery’s official operation is scheduled on February 21.
Total capacity: 6.5 million tons of crude oil per year
Major products:
- Gasoline Mogas 90/92/95: around 1.9 million tons;
- Diesel for automobiles: about 3 million tons;
- Kerosene and fuel for jet engines J-A1: about 410,000 tons;
- Propylene: about 110,000 tons;
- Liquefied petroleum gas: about 300,000 tons;
- Fuel oil (FO): about 330,000 tons;
- FO for power plants: 480,000 tons;
- Annual sales: over VND 55 trillion.
