First national General Election celebrated

VGP – A meeting was held on January 6 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first national General Election to elect deputies to the National Assembly (NA) of Viet Nam (January 6, 1946 – January 6, 2016).

January 06, 2016 4:39 PM GMT+7

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, PM Nguyen Tan Dung and NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung attended the event, among others.

The Party Chief affirmed that after 70 years and 13 sessions, the NA has effectively realized its functions, tasks and rights as regulated in the Constitution and the laws.

The NA deputies have upheld responsibilities to meet the desires of people as well as made great contributions to the nation building and protection.

As the highest agency representing the people and the nation’s most powerful state agency, the NA needs to bring into full play the achievements made over the past 70 years and improve the quality and effectiveness of its operation to meet the national development requirements in the future, he added.

The NA should enhance law-making activities to serve the socio-economic development, national defense and security and diplomacy, establish a synchronous and full legal system and complete the socialist oriented-market economy, Mr. Trong highlighted.

It is necessary to promote diplomatic activities, realize the guideline for active international integration, take advantage of favorable conditions to launch parliamentary diplomacy activities and contribute to successfully implementing the Party and State’s foreign policy of openness and multilateralization.
