First batch of Remdesivir arrives in Viet Nam

VGP – The first batch of 10,000 Remdesivir vials landed on Thursday at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City – the epicenter of the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence.

This is the first part of the 500,000 doses ordered by Vingroup, a leading private conglomerate in Viet Nam. As scheduled, the next batch of 100,000 vials will arrive in Viet Nam next week. 

Vingroup announced earlier that it would donate 500,000 doses to the Ministry of Health for COVID-19 treatment.

In addition, some of big Indian pharmaceutical companies agreed to provide Viet Nam with approximately 1 million doses of Remdesivir following days of negotiations between the Vietnamese Embassy’s taskforce on COVID-19 drugs and vaccines and major pharmaceutical companies of India such as Hetero, Dr. Reddy, Cipla, Jubilant, Mylan, Zydus and Cadila.

According to the ministry.s Viet Nam has placed top priority on reducing COVID-19 infections and fatalities so gar.

The number of infections since Viet Nam was hit by the fourth COVID-19 wave reached 185,162, including 58,040 recoveries and 2,720 deaths.

Among current active cases, 486 are being treated at ICUs, of whom 20 are receiving ECMO support.

In HCM City alone, 112,215 positive cases were confirmed, with death toll surpassing 2,000 since the fourth wave began./.
