FDI disbursement in 2008 hits the record

VGP - According to the Foreign Investment Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment, over the past 11 months, US $60.09 billion of FDI capital have been registered in Việt Nam. In November alone, the country has licensed 106 new FDI projects valuing of US $726 million.

In the first 11 months, the newly-registered FDI capital has reached US $59 billion in total, increasing seven times against the same period last year.

Also in November, 25 projects have been added with a total capital of US $272 million, raising the total added capital over the past 11 months to US $1.08 billion.

The FDI disbursement in November and in the past 11 months stands at US $950 million and US $10 billion respectively, reaching a 44.2% increase compared with the same period last year.

So far, foreign-invested enterprises have raised their revenue by 26.3% against the same period last year, in which the export and import values are estimated to be US $22.2 billion (up 24.9%) and US $26.2 billion (up 34.2%) respectively. This sector has also contributed to the State budget US $1.8 billion, 25% higher than the same period last year.

Mr. Phan Hữu Thắng, Head of the Foreign Investment Department, predicted that this year Việt Nam is likely to attract US $65 billion in FDI, tripling last year’s figure. The disbursed amount may reach US $11 billion, 37% higher than 2007 and the highest for the past 20 years.

Up to now, 11 countries and territories have registered an FDI capital of more than US $1 billion. Malaysia holds the lead with 49 projects worth of US $14.9 billion, followed by Taiwan (127 projects and US $8.6 billion) and Japan (95 projects and US $7.2 billion)
