In the morning of February 12, the conference to sum up external information work in 2006 and design the 2007 agenda was held in Hanoi with the attendance of Deputy PM, Foreign Minister, Head of the Steering Board of External Information Work Phạm Gia Khiêm.

In 2006, many considerable achievement were gained in externally-oriented information of different fields in which the most noteworthy was the publicizing of Vietnam’s renewal results; 14th APEC Leaders’ Meeting held in Hanoi; and Vietnam’s accession into WTO. The work of externally-oriented information has been renovated and diversified to adapt to the country’s integration.

In 2007, this work will be boosted to fully popularize Vietnam’s implementation of WTO commitments; the 12th National Assembly election; provide more information of external economy; and diffuse the country’s image through cultural and tourist activities.

To increase quality and effectiveness of externally-oriented information, most of the attendants agreed that more externally-oriented publications should be put online because this is a good method to provide information about Vietnam in the fast and cost-effective way. At the same time, it is necessary to train and nurture qualified staff in charge of externally-oriented information.

Concluding the Conference, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm requested, in the coming time, the work should be furthered, mobilizing the close cooperation of the relevant agencies to make the work increasingly effective and successful.
