Exports witness slight increase in January

VGP – The US maintained its status as the largest importer of Viet Nam’s products, with the value of US$2.6 billion in January, a year-on-year increase of 12%.

According to the General Statistics Office, in January, Viet Nam earned an export value of US$12.9 billion, up 0.2% against the previous month.

Of the figure, the State and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) sectors contributed US$4.4 billion and US$8.2 billion, up 3.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

A number of items witnessed sharp increases in the export turnover compared to the same period last year, including electronics, computers and accessories up 62.2%, phones and spare parts up 27.2% and cashew up 26.9%.

The EU and ASEAN ranked second and third in importing Viet Nam’s goods with US$2.4 billion and US$1.5 billion, up 10.5% and 3.7%, respectively.

Viet Nam’s imports in the first month of the year reached US$13.4 billion, down 4.5% compared to the previous month. Of which, the foreign-invested and State sectors contributed US$7.8 billion and US$5.6 billion, down 2.4% and down 7.3%, respectively.

The nation’s import turnover in January saw a year-on-year increase of 35.5%.

China is the largest exporter of Viet Nam with US44.2 billion, up 47.1%, followed by ASEAN US$2 billion, up 26.6% and the Republic of Korea up 12.6%.
