Export turnover jumps 22.9% in Jan-Feb

VGP – Viet Nam’s export market showed positive signals in which export turnover was estimated at US$ 33.62 billion, up 22.9% against the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.

In February only, export volume was projected at US$ 13.4 billion, representing a year-on-year decline of 33.7%. 

In the first two months, export turnover was estimated US$ 33.62 billion, up 22.9% against the same period of last year of which the domestic sector shipped US% 9.66 billion of goods abroad (up 25.7%) and the FDI sector (including crude oil) exported US$ 23.96 billion, up 21.8%. 

Biggest hard currency earners included telephones and spare parts with US$ 6.6 billion (up 41.7%); garments and textiles with US$ 4.3 billion (up 22.3%); electronics, computers, and spare parts with US$ 4 billion (up 19.2%); footwear with US$ 2.3 billion (up 11.9%); machines and spare parts with US$ 2.1 billion (up 19.5%).  

In the first two months, China was Viet Nam’s biggest importer with US$ 6.2 billion (up 64.8% against the same period last year); followed by the U.S. with US$ 6 billion (up 14%); the EU with US$ 5.8 billion (up 15%); ASEAN with US$ 3.5 billion (up 11.2%); Japan with US$ 2.6 billion (up 11.1%); the Republic of Korea with US$ 2.6 billion (up 36.4%). 

In the reviewed period, import turnover was projected at US$ 32.54 billion, posting a year-on-year surge of 15.3% of which the domestic sector imported US$ 13.34 billion (up 16.4%) and the FDI sector US$ 19.2 billion (up 14.5%). 

In the January-February period, China was the biggest exporter of Viet Nam accountin for US$ 9.4 billion of total export turnover (up 24.4%); followed by the Republic of Korea with US$ 7 billion (up 18.7%); ASEAN with US$ 4.4 billion (up 13.2%); Japan with US$ 2.5 billion (up 5.7%); the EU with US$ 1.8 billion (up 5.7%); and the U.S. with US$ 1.4 billion (down 5.5%). 

Regarding trade balance, Viet Nam ran a trade surplus of US$ 1.08 billion in the first two months./.
