“Each of us should hold responsibilities for reducing traffic accidents and traffic congestion,” the Government chief said in a message aired on the transport reports channel of  Radio the Voice of Việt Nam while visiting the station on Tuesday.

Together with traffic congestion, traffic accident is currently a pressing issue in Việt Nam, taking at least 30 lives on average a day. A series of measures have been introduced over the past years but have yet worked as expected.

In a bid to decrease traffic accident fatalities, the Government has chosen 2012 as the “Year of Traffic Safety” to restore traffic safety and order across the country.

Accordingly, PM Dũng requested ministries, sectors and local authorities design synchronous solutions, striving to curb the death rate by 5%-10%  and gradually decrease traffic congestion in Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City.
