Rescue workers step up efforts to search for Army Economic Group 337, a unit of Military Region 4 in Quang Tri Province, where 22 officers and soldiers are still missing after a landslide hit their barracks on Sunday morning

Specifically, four central regions including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Quang Nam would receive 1,000 tons of rice each.

The PM assigned the People’s Committees of these localities to receive and allocate the aid to accurate beneficiaries.

The same day, the Government chief asked for greater efforts in rescue operations and settlement of consequences of landslides in the central provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri.

As of late October 18, flash floods triggered by heavy rains in the central region have claimed 84 lives while 38 others are still missing, according to the Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

As many as 52,933 houses have been submerged and 24,734 others were seriously damaged, the committee added.

Floods destroyed over 107,500 hectares of rice and food crops and more than 461,000 cattle and poultry were dead or swept away in floodwaters./.
