EU supports VN enforce Competition Law

VGP - A workshop to review 10 years of implementing the competition law in Viet Nam was held by the Viet Nam Competition Council (VCC) and the European Trade Policy and Investment Support Project (EU-MUTRAP) in Ho Chi Minh City December 16.

December 17, 2014 8:09 PM GMT+7
EU-MUTRAP Technical Assistance Team Leader Claudio Dordi said the Competition Law has been implemented over the past 20 years and proved effective. Notably, it has played an important part in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) negotiations among concerned nations.

As a dynamic country on the right track of international integration, it is urgent for Viet Nam to promote the efficiency of the Competition Law, he added.

Valuable experience from the EU and the EU-MUTRAP project’s experts will enable the country to enhance its capacity of law enforcement in the context of global market integration.
So far, over 100 cases violating the competition law were uncovered in Viet Nam.

VCC Director General Dr. Tran Mai Hien emphasised businesses, especially enterprises holding monopholy, need to know what they are allowed and probihited to do to avoid violating the Competition Law.

An EU-MUTRAP expert Dr Trinh Minh Hien said violations should be publicised and handled as soon as possible to help businesses to create a healthy competition environment in Viet Nam.

The Competition Law was issued on December 3, 2004 with the purpose of restricting unhealthy competition.
