Both European Commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management Christos Stylianides and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini issued a joint declaration which shares their sympathy with Viet Nam over the losses sparked by typhoon  Damrey.

The tropical storm hit Viet Nam a few days ago, causing heavy losses of lives and materials, while there remained serious consequences from previous consecutive storms over the past weeks. “On behalf of the European Union, we expressed our sincere sympathy to victims, their families and relatives,” according to Spain-based El Periódico Newspaper.

The two representatives also affirmed that the EU stands ready to stand by people and the Government of Viet Nam in difficult times.

According to the declaration, the EU has contacted local authorities to provide aid for Viet Nam to overcome the consequences.

Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, a personal spokesman for Russian President Vladimir  Putin on November 7 announced that the President directed to supply US$5 million in aid for Viet Nam to overcome consequences of typhoon Damrey.

Statistics showed that as of late November 8, typhoon Damrey claimed 91 lives and caused 23 missing. It uprooted 1,486 houses and damaged 119,361 others./.
