“The 2006 EU Trade Counselors Report on Vietnam”, a common initiative by the EU members' embassies in Vietnam identified the EU was still a premier trading partner of Vietnam  in 2006 and the future.

According to the report, the EU is the second biggest market (ranking after the US) for Vietnamese exports and the 6th importer into the country. Additionally, the EU is the second largest investor into Vietnam (after Japan) in terms of working capital, which now stands at US$4.2 billion.

The report provided assessments and analysis on Vietnam's business environment and noteworthy economic developments in 2006.

Addressing the meeting, German Ambassador Christian Ludwig Weber Lortsch emphasized that  two-way trade between the EU and Vietnam as well as investment has grown steadily in the last decade. This is a good evidence for strong commitments of the European business community to Vietnam, he said. Mr. Weber Lortsch confirmed that investors from the EU show increasing eagerness to pour capital and modern technologies in Vietnam.
