EC Ambassador awarded Friendship Order

VNGOP - Ambassador Markus Cornaro, Head of the delegation of the European Commission (EC) to Vietnam, was awarded Vietnam’s Friendship Order on June 27 in Hanoi, in recognition of his contributions to the developed relations between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) in general as well as the EC in particular.

Over the past time, the Vietnam-EU cooperation and friendship have been expanded from primarily the domains of health care, science and education to finance, banking, telecommunications and legislature.
Two-way trade between the two sides surged to US$ 9.9 billion in 2006 from US$ 4.1 billion in 2000. The EU pledged to give Vietnam €43.4 million each year from 2007 to 2013 as official development assistance, increasing 30% per year on average against the period of 2002-2006. Investors from the EU have conducted 551 projects in Vietnam, worth of US$ 7.34 billion.
