Disbursed FDI surges slightly in Jan-Aug period

VGP - Disbursed foreign direct investment (FDI) was estimated at US$ 7.9 billion in the first eight months, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.5%, according to the General Statistics Office.

In the reviewed period, over US$ 10.23 billion FDI flowed into Viet Nam, down 19% against last year’s same period.

By August 20, the number of newly licensed FDI projects were 992, up 29% from a year ago, with registered capital of US$ 7.25 billion, down 2.1%. About US$ 2.3 billion was added to 349 existing projects.

Processing and manufacturing industries were the most attractive FDI sectors by luring 68.4% of the total registered capital, or US$ 7 billion; followed by real estates (US$ 1.15 billion) and construction (US$ 552.9 million).

The Republic of Korea was the largest investor by investing US$ 2.467 billion, followed by Hong Kong (China) with over US$ 1 billion and Japan with US$ 769.9 million.

In the January-August period, the northern province of Bac Ninh took the lead in FDI attraction with US$ 1.26 billion; followed by Ho Chi Minh City with US$ 993 million and northern Quang Ninh province with US$ 576.2 million./.
