Politburo member Minh made the appeal while hosting a reception for a delegation of Japanese parliamentarians, headed by Takuji Yanagimoto, who are in Ha Noi for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26).

The host spoke highly of the contributions made by the Japanese delegation and Takuji Yanagimoto himself to the preparation and organization of the APPF-26 in Viet Nam, thus contributing to the success of the conference.

Regarding bilateral relations, he stated that the extensive strategic cooperative partnership between Viet Nam and Japan has entered its best development stage since the two countries established their diplomatic ties.

The two sides regularly maintains the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at the high level, while bilateral economic and trade relations are also growing vigorously, with two-way trade estimated at US$30.2 billion in the first 11 months of 2017, the deputy PM said.

Both the host and the guest agreed on the importance of free trade to the process of socio-economic development in the world amid the increasing protectionism. Minh highly appreciated Japan’s role in accelerating the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

On the occasion, the deputy PM thanked Japan for providing official development assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam, which he said, has contributed significantly to the country’s achievements today, especially in the field of infrastructure development.

For his part, Takuji Yanagimoto shared Minh’s positive views on the Viet Nam-Japan relations over the past few years, whilst expressing the Japanese delegation’s impression on Viet Nam’s development achievements, as well as their commitment to continuing  contributing actively to the success of the APPF-26.

The Japanese parliament pledges to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly, he affirmed.
