Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue (R) receives WEF President Borge Brende

At the reception, WEF President Borge Brende said that the participating businesses have been impressed by the forum, as well as lauding the collaboration demonstrated by the host nation, noting that it has brought benefits to both ASEAN and Viet Nam.

Brende forecast that Viet Nam’s economy will grow by approximately 7% in 2018 with the value of its stock market doubling in the past two years. He affirmed that the WEF is willing to support Vietnam's effort in stepping up innovation amid the 4th Industrial Revolution.

In turn, Deputy PM Hue expressed his delight at the significant number of world leaders and businesses presented at the WEF on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) this year, saying it reflects their interest in partnerships and investment ties with ASEAN in general and Viet Nam in particular.

He also spoke highly of WEF for its close consultation with Viet Nam in designing the topics, content, and agenda of the event, which is in line with global trends and ASEAN’s 2018 theme of resilience and an innovative community.

The Deputy PM also asked the WEF to help Viet Nam build a national innovative centre to assist and incubate start-ups.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue also had separate talks with leaders of Mitsubishi, Deloitte, Hanwha Energy, McKinsey, and HSBC Bank.

In a meeting with Matthew Lobner, Head of Strategy and Planning for Asia-Pacific of HSBC Bank, Mr. Hue expects the Bank to give Vietnam reports and consultations on macro-economic policies, help Vietnam resolve bad debts, and restructure financial institutions.

Talking to Ken Kawai, Vice Chairman of Mitsubishi Industry Corporation, Mr. Hue praised it for providing scholarships to Vietnamese students and expanding its business in Vietnam.

Receiving Philip Yuen, CEO of Deloitte Southeast Asia, Mr. Hue praised it for helping Viet Nam train human resources for the audit sector.

Meeting with Kaushik Das, CEO of McKinsey & Company Southeast Asia, Deputy Prime Minister Hue suggested it give advice to the Vietnamese government pertaining to policies for sustainable development, capacity building, and human resource training.
