Deputy PM Pham Minh Minh holds phone talks with U.S. National Security Adviser

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan discussed on ways to beef up the Viet Nam-U.S relationship and regional and international issues of shared interest over the phone on Thursday.

Both sides were pleased to witness the upward trajectory of the bilateral ties across fields, bringing about practical benefits to the two countries and contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia-Pacific and the world.

The sides agreed to further deepen the Viet Nam-U.S. comprehensive partnership through regular high-level exchanges and contacts and enhanced cooperation in such domains like war aftermath settlement, science-technology, education and training, and climate change adaptation.

Deputy PM Pham appreciated the U.S. vaccine donations to other countries via the COVAX Facility and bilateral agreements, calling on the American side to facilitate vaccine delivery to Viet Nam as committed.

Pham also suggested the two countries coordinate closely to ensure harmoninous and sustainable advancement of the bilateral economic, trade and investment ties.

Sullivan affirmed the U.S. attaches importance the the comprehensive partnership with Viet Nam and spoke highly of the Southeast Asian country’s rising role in the region and the world.

The U.S. will continue assisting Viet Nam in accessing vaccine supply sources to push back the COVID-19 pandemic, Sullivan said.

Both Pham and Sullivan vowed to step up coordination at international forums like the United Nations Security Council to address common challenges.

They voiced support for the ASEAN centrality, maritime freedom, and settlement of disputes in the East Sea on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
