Deputy PM Minh meets foreign officials on Belt and Road Forum sidelines

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh met with Djibouti’s FM Mahmoud Ali Yossouf in Beijing, China on Thursday as the pair came to China to attend the second Belt and Road Forum.

Deputy PM., FM Pham Binh Minh (R) meets with Djibouti’s FM Mahmoud Ali Yossouf in Beijing, China on April 25, 2019 on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum.

At the meeting, Minh congratulated Djibouti on its recent achievements and normalization of ties with Eritrea, which have helped the African nation to gradually build peace and stability for national development.

He affirmed Viet Nam expects to foster cooperation with Djibouti, hoping Djibouti will be a bridge for Viet Nam to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with African countries.

Yossouf spoke highly of Viet Nam’s achievements over the past years, affirming Djibouti supports Viet Nam to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 tenure and wish to maintain good coordination at multilateral for a and international organizations.

Both sides agreed to push for the signing of an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders and organize political consultations between the two countries.

The same day, Minh also met with Liberia’s Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Nathaniel F.McGill.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at quick developments of the bilateral ties since the two countries officially established diplomatic relations in June 2016, particularly, the two-way trade doubled to over US$70 million in 2018.

Minh asked Liberia to back Viet Nam to win a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in the tenure 2020-2021.

Both sides agreed to step up the exchange of delegations, especially high-level ones in a bid to lift up the bilateral ties to new heights./.
