Deputy PM Minh greets new Finnish Ambassador
VGP – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh hosted a reception for newly appointed Finnish Ambassador to Viet Nam, Kari Kahiluoto, in Ha Noi on January 25, during which he congratulated the diplomat on his new mission in the country.

As the two countries are celebrating 45 years of bilateral diplomatic ties this year (January 25, 1973-2018) and shifting from development cooperation into mutually beneficial partnership, the deputy PM asked both sides to build on the fine cooperation tradition over the past years, whilst fully tapping into their advantages and potential, aiming to develop bilateral relations in a more substantive and effective manner in the next period.
He called on the Finnish Government and Ambassador Kahiluoto to strengthen measures to boost trade and investment cooperation between the two sides, as well as encouraging and supporting Finnish businesses to make investments in Viet Nam, especially in the fields of clean technology, renewable energy, environment, water treatment, forest technology and information technology.
The Foreign Ministry and other agencies of Viet Nam will create favourable conditions for the diplomat to brilliantly perform his tasks, Politburo member Minh affirmed.
For his part, Ambassador Kahiluoto expressed his honour to take the mission in Viet Nam, whilst pledging to make active contributions to accelerating Viet Nam-Finland relations in a more extensive fashion, particularly in the areas of trade-investment, education-training, science-technology and innovation.
Viet Nam is one of Finland’s key partners in Asia and a bridge for the European country to enhance ties with ASEAN member states, he said, stating that many Finnish enterprises are interested in the Vietnamese market, focusing on the spheres of clean technology, environment, waste treatment, smart city, information management and healthcare.
The ambassador affirmed that Finland would actively facilitate the implementation of the EU-Viet Nam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation (PCA) and the official signing and ratification of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), aiming to open up a new outlook for trade and investment cooperation between the two sides in the time to come.
