VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Friday held phone talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Minh congratulated Blinken upon the lattter’s appointment as new U.S. Secretary of State, expressing his readiness to work closely with Bliken to further foster the Viet Nam-U.S. Comprehensive Partnership for the benefits of the two peoples, thus contributing to consolidating peace, security, development, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as well.

Both sides agreed the bilateral ties have advanced across fields over the past 25 years, pleding to cooperate in deepening the ties in a more comprehensive manner, with a focus on economy-trade-investment, overcoming war consequences, enhancing maritime capacity, fighting COVID-19 and adapting to climate change.

Blinken congratulated Viet Nam on the success of the 13th National party Congress, affirming the U.S. continues attaching importance with Viet Nam.

Blinken also extended congratulations to Viet Nam on successfully undertaking its roles as the ASEAN Chair 2020 and non-permanent of the United Nations Security Council in the first half of its two-year term.

The U.S. attaches importance to and supports ASEAN’s centrality in the region and wishes to strengthen cooperation in regional and international mechanisms on issues of shared concerns, he added./.
