Deputy PM, FM Minh busy on sidelines of AMM-51

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh had separate meetings with Foreign Ministers of Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea on the sidelines of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-51) in Singapore on Wednesday.

PM Lee appreciates VN-SG strategic partnership, confirms attendance at WEF ASEAN

At the meeting with Lao FM Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy PM, FM Minh once again extended sincere sympathies to the leaders and people of Laos over the huge loss caused by the recent dam collapse in Attapeu province, expressing his belief that Laos will soon overcome the consequences of the incident.

The two sides agreed to strengthen information sharing and coordination at sub-regional, regional and international forums and work with other ASEAN members to further deepen ASEAN Community connectivity and cooperation as well as the central role and common voice of the bloc in strategic matters, including the East Sea issue, contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.

Deputy PM, FM Minh and Indonesian FM Retno Marsudi noted with pleasure that the strategic partnership between the two countries has advanced positively and effectively.

Both sides agreed on close coordination in realizing the outcomes of Vietnamese Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Indonesia in August last year and the 3rd meeting of the Viet Nam-Indonesia Committee for Bilateral Cooperation last April, preparing for upcoming high-level visits.

The two countries vowed to soon complete the development of an action plan for the implementation of their strategic partnership for the period 2019-2023, focusing on economic and trade pillar and striving to raise the two-way trade volume to US$10 billion by 2020.

The two officials pledged to continue close coordination at regional and international forums, enhance ASEAN solidarity and unity, including in the East Sea issue, and step up the formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea in an effective and practical manner.

Marsudi conveyed thanks to Viet Nam for backing Indonesia’s bid to win a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in the tenure 2019-2020, reaffirming her country’s support for Viet Nam to become a non-permanent member in the following tenure.

Deputy PM, FM Minh congratulated Saifuddin Abdullah who has been appointed new Malaysian FM.

He suggested Malaysia facilitate Vietnamese exports like rice, farm produce, and manpower to the Malaysian market.

Abdullah affirmed Malaysia stands ready to coordinate with Viet Nam in the regional issues in order to ensure the solidarity, consensus and central role of ASEAN.

At his meeting with Korean FM Kang Kyung-wha, Deputy PM, FM Minh expressed his hope that both sides would continue close collaboration in deploying the key agreements reached on the occasion of President Moon Jae-in’s State visit to Viet Nam in March this year.

He welcomed and spoke highly of the agreements reached between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and between the DPRK and the U.S. over the past time.

Viet Nam commits to coordinating with relevant sides to promote dialogues, cooperation and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula in order to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Kang stressed that Viet Nam is the biggest partner of her country in ASEAN, appreciating Viet Nam’s role and wishing the Southeast Asian country to continue support for the peace and denuclearization process of the Korean Peninsula./.
