Located in Phung village, Dan Phuong commune, Dan Phuong district, Dai Phung Communal House takes its name from its village.

The communal house turns to the northwest and is said to lie in a direction of Yin and Yang harmony.

In addition to the value of a village cultural center, Dai Phung Communal House retains the unique architecture and folk carvings. Inside the communal house, a small tiled courtyard leads to the ‘Tien Te’, a three-compartment area with four pillars. ‘Tien Te’ is considered the product of the first half of the 20th century. Here, officials and dignitaries often meet and make embellishments before performing the ritual of worshiping the village’s tutelary deity.

Going through ‘Tien Te’ then comes a more spacious and taller three-compartment building called ‘Dai Dinh’. The god worshiping venue is placed in the innermost area of ‘Dai Dinh’.

Almost all values of Dai Phung Communal House are converged in this architectural building, with wood carvings of the 17th century.

It can be said that carvings in Dai Phung Communal House are unique and artistic, but they are quite typical for communal house architecture in the land of Doai.

The ancients did not need to follow the proportional image, but just took the eye-catchingness as a standard to create a folk beauty. That is the fascinating feature in the art of architecture and carving at Dai Phung Communal House.

The Phung villagers are very proud of their communal house, because of not only its architectural art but also its tutelary god - a clever general named ‘Vu Hung’, who is considered a hero.

The 18th day of the first lunar month and the 11th lunar month – the respective date of birth and death of the aforementioned hero, is taken by local people as the date of the communal house’s main worshiping ceremony./.
