Da Nang welcomes its first visitors of 2018

VGP - The MSC LIRICA cruise ship with Chinese passengers on board docked at Tien Sa port in Central Da Nang City on the morning of January 1.

January 02, 2018 11:07 AM GMT+7

The ship brought the first 2,000 international  passengers to the city on New Year's Day.

Also on Monday morning, a welcome ceremony for the first 220 international air passengers to set foot in Da Nang on New Year’s Day, took place at the city’s International Airport.

The foreign first footers, the majority of whom are from the Republic of Korea, arrived on a direct Vietjet Air-operated flight VJ881 from Seoul.

Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism Ngo Quang Vinh said that the new Tien Sa quay for cruise ships has come into operation in the hope that even more visitors will be welcomed to the city this year.

2017 was a successful year for the tourism sector in Da Nang with the number of foreign arrivals to the city jumping by 36.8%. This figure is expected to continue rising this year.

The city will continue to diversify its tourism products, and encourage investors and businesses to organize more entertaining activities to stimulate visitors’ spending, Mr Vinh said.

Last year, there was a rapid increase in the number of visitors travelling by sea to Da Nang. The Central City received 78 cruise ships carrying 120,000 tourists, a year-on-year rise of 46%, the highest level for years.
