Da Nang welcomes first tonnes of cargo in New Year

VGP - Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company on January 1 welcomed a ship bearing the flag of the Marshall Islands as the first vessel to dock at Da Nang port in 2021, with a haul of 15,000 tons.

Despite suffering negatively from the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and natural disasters over the previous year, the total volume of goods through Da Nang Port and container throughput improved, reaching 11.4 million tonnes, and 554,000 Teus, respectively.

In 2020, overcoming difficulties affecting epidemics and natural disasters, goods passing through Da Nang port will still grow by 17% and up approximately 15% compared to 2019.

Da Nang port has developed into one of the 10 largest container handling ports in the nation and is among the top five most prestigious logistics units in the port industry.

Last year saw Da Nang Port put the Container Operation Center into operation featuring an electronic port system and an automatic container system as a means of minimising waiting times and cutting costs for customers.

Moving forward, Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company is poised to invest in the construction of wharves No. 4 and 5 at Tien Sa ports, including six hectares of container storage, in addition to crane equipment of all kinds.

The company is anticipated to build a 20-hectare container area in Hoa Nhon commune of Hoa Vang district as a logistics centre of the Central and Central Highlands.

Mr. Tran Le Tuan, Acting Director General of the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, said that the port reached an unforgettable milestone in the development journey of the Da Nang port totaling more than 500,000 Teus, which is a very memorable hook. “Today, the port welcomes top tonnes in 2021 with a target of 630,000 TEUs and 12.5 million tonnes, sales of more than 1,000 billion by 2021”, Tuan said.

In 2020, Da Nang Port also operated a Container Operations and Operations Center with an electronic port system, an automated container port, minimizing waiting times and reducing costs for customers.
