PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at a working session with key leaders of the central coastal city in Ha Noi on September 28.

He lauded Da Nang’s noteworthy achievements such as a favorable investment climate, dynamic human resources, effective public servants and a large number of enterprises. The city has also been performing well concerning the building of brands and development of tourism, he added.

Da Nang needs to invest more in its western areas where socio-economic conditions are not as sufficient as in other areas of the city, as well as boost the local startup movement, the government leader said.

He asked the locality to make a more consistent and intensive development planning to optimize the limited land resources; open its door wider to talented people and investors, both at home and abroad; strongly boost the development of science and technology; support the growth of the marine economy; and pay more attention to social security and care for national contributors.

PM Phuc also encouraged the city to build a constructive government of integrity; renovate the local apparatus towards efficiency; maintain political security and social order; and effectively deal with the issue of traffic congestion.

Da Nang should promote its central role in the region, provide further support for central localities and promote trade with strong finances and economies such as Singapore and Hong Kong (China), he noted.

As reported at the meeting, Da Nang welcomed 4.41 million tourists in the first nine months of 2016, up 18.3% year on year and equivalent to 85.8% of the year’s plan. It earned almost VND12.8 trillion (US$576 million) in tourism revenue, representing an increase of 25.4% compared to the same period last year.

Da Nang has led the country for eight straight years in terms of the Information, Communication and Technology Index and for four consecutive years concerning the Public Administration Reform Index.

The city is hosting the fifth Asian Beach Games and is preparing for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in 2017.
