Da Nang remains 1st in PCI rankings

VGP – The central city of Da Nang maintained the 1stposition in Viet Nam’s annual Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2014.

This information was released by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) at a meeting held in Ha Noi April 16. 

Besides Da Nang City, the top five includes Dong Thap Province, Lao Cai Province, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh Province.

This is the fourth time that the city has topped this rankings. According to the analysis of the PCI’s researchers, the city launched effectively “The year for Businesses 2014” program and facilitated businesses' development by speeding up the administrative reform and tackling obstacles for the business community.

Remarkably, the northern province of Lao Cai jumped 14 steps to the 3rd position in the PCI 2014 thanks to reviewing, amending and supplementing regulations related to the investment environment.

The northern province of Quang Ninh set its two successive year in the top five and took the lead in terms of management quality. The establishment of public administrative center helps reduce the number of staff and annual expenditures as well as economize businesses’ costs and time.  

Ho Chi Minh City made its fist presentation at the top five of the PCI 2014, which acknowledged efforts of the city in improving administrative procedure.

The capital of Ha Noi ranked 26th among 63 nations and provinces nationwide. The neighboring province of Bac Ninh came back to the top 10 cities and provinces in terms of high quality in management.

The northern province of Thai Nguyen was also listed in top 10 with the remarks in attracting high Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows.

The southern province of Ca Mau and Northern mountainous provinces’ of Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lai Chau and Dien Bien held the bottom positions of the rankings.
