DPM wraps up Russian tour

VGP - Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan met with First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Ivan Melnicov and held talks with his Russian counterpart Olga Golodets on September 17 (local time) before successfully concluding his three-day tour to Russia.

Meeting with Mr. Ivan Melnicov, Deputy PM said that he was pleased to witness the huge achievements of the Russian Federation in national development and modernization and Russia’s higher status at international arena.

The strengthened political ties have helped boost the dynamic economic and commercial linkages between the two countries, especially towards a higher trade volume in the coming time, said Mr. Nhan.  

The two sides also talked about preparations for the upcoming official visit of Russian President V. Putin to Viet Nam, which is scheduled for this November.

For his part, Mr. Ivan Melnicov highly spoke of the political, economic, cultural and educational accomplishments made by Viet Nam as well as political dialogues, people-to-people exchanges, and cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.  

State Duma, said Mr. Ivan Melnicov, hopes to work with Viet Nam in the building of the Viet Nam-Russia University, further coordination in healthcare, usage of satellites and space for peaceful purposes, early approval of agreements on people's travel, military cooperation and criminal extradition.

The same day, Deputy PM Nhan held talks with Olga Golodets, Deputy PM for Social Affairs of Russia, discussing how to upgrade the bilateral educational and scientific ties to a strategic partnership level.

Ms.  Olga Golodets said that Russia is ready to shake hands with Viet Nam in healthcare cooperation especially prevention of tropical communicable diseases, locating satellites, remote sensing technology and tourism.

The two leaders hailed the two countries' close coordination at international forums.

Deputy PM Nhan said he hoped that Russia would continue making positive contributions to the settlement of disputes in the East Sea on the basis of international laws, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the ASEAN's Six- Point Principles on the East Sea.  

The two sides agreed to early sign a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia in a bid to raise two-way trade volume to US$7 billion in 2015 and US$7 billion in 2020.  

The two leaders witnessed the signing of Governmental agreements on training and a special cooperation mechanism for science and technology research.

A framework agreement on science-technology and education-training will be signed in November, 2013./.
