The Deputy PM made that statement while meeting a Nigeria-Viet Nam Business Association delegation on October 29 in Abuja, Nigeria.

President of the Nigeria-Viet Nam Business Association Sani Bako was the first Nigerian Ambassador to Viet Nam (in 2007) and Vice President of the Association was also the Nigerian Ambassador to Viet Nam (in 2015).

At the meeting, Sani Bako spoke highly of Viet Nam’s economic development, especially in agriculture, manufacturing and IT.

The Association has received support from the Nigerian Government and the Vietnamese Embassy in Abuja, he said, adding that a delegation led by the President of the Association will attend Ho Chi Minh City international fair in next December, meet with representatives of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Vietnamese enterprises.

Currently, some members of the Association are cooperating with Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry.

Bako highly appraised the visit of Deputy PM Hue, saying it will create a new development in the two nations’ diplomatic and economic ties, and expecting that the two-way trade value will continuously rise in the time to come.

For his side, Deputy PM Hue proposed the Association  join hands with the VCCI to promote trade with Nigeria in particular and West Africa in general to introduce the image of Viet Nam to Nigeria and organize a Viet Nam-Nigeria Business Forum.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM suggested the Association to encourage the Nigerian Government to loosen control of rice and coffee given the current import tariff imposed on these products reaches 60%.

The Nigeria-Viet Nam Business Association was set up on September 2, 2018.
