DPM tours three European countries

VGP – Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung is on a working visit to the Netherlands, Ireland and the United Kingdom (UK) from April 18 to 27, at the invitation of the governments of the three European countries.

April 18, 2017 4:33 PM GMT+7

Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung

The deputy PM is being accompanied by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and leaders from the Steering Committee for the Southwest Region; the Government Office; the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Construction, Transport, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Planning and Investment; and the Ha Noi People’s Committee.

The Netherlands visit takes place from April 18-20. The Vietnamese delegation will then leave for the visits to Ireland from April 21-23 and the UK from April 24-27.

At the first destination, in addition to chairing the sixth meeting of the Viet Nam-Netherlands Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management, Deputy PM Dung is scheduled to meet Dutch PM Mark Rutte and some members of the Dutch government, as well as to visit a number of infrastructure facilities, seaports and climate change adaptation facilities.

The Netherlands is one of Viet Nam’s leading economic, trade and investment partners in Europe, with two-way trade reaching over US$6.68 billion in 2016. The country is also the largest European investor in Viet Nam with a total investment capital of US$7.61 billion.

The Viet Nam-Netherlands relations have been growing actively and comprehensively since the two sides established diplomatic ties over four decades ago, particularly after they set  up a strategic partnership on climate change adaptation and water management in 2010 and a strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security four years later.

The Netherlands always sees Viet Nam as its priority partner. Both sides have worked out five priority fields, including climate change adaptation and water management, agriculture, energy, sea-based economy and transportation services.

The two countries organized five meetings of the Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management in the past, discussing issues related to climate, natural resource and environment cooperation, particularly the Mekong Delta Plan, which has been implemented since 2013.

Concerning the strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security, both sides have also identified priority fields for cooperation, including farming, livestock, veterinary medicine, smart agriculture and agricultural science.
