DPM suggests establishing dialogue channel with U.S. Department of Treasury

VGP – Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue suggested the U.S. Department of the Treasury establish a dialogue channel with the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and other relevant ministries and agencies so that the U.S. side could have more information to evaluate Viet Nam’s trade relations and exchange rate policy.

The Deputy PM made that statement at his meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on June 25 on the occasion of his official visit to the U.S. from June 25-27. 

Viet Nam greatly values the economic and financial cooperation opportunities with the U.S. and both countries are enjoying favorable conditions to further step up the two nations’ comprehensive partnership, said Deputy PM Hue. 

He announced that his official visit to the U.S. aims to promote the realization of the commitments reached during PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to the U.S. in May 2017 and U.S. President Donald Trump’s official visit to Viet Nam in November the same year. 

The Vietnamese leader proposed the U.S. complete procedures to ratify the bilateral agreement on avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on incomes. 

He expected the U.S. will re-open the Official Development Assistance (ODA) and preferential loans channel for Viet Nam, enhance direct and indirect aid programs through non-governmental organizations to realize humanitarian and development projects in Viet Nam. 

Mr. Steven Mnuchin welcomes the Vietnamese Deputy PM’s visit to the U.S., saying it manifested the Vietnamese Government’s goodwill and determination in launching reached high-ranking commitments, making contribution to promoting Viet Nam-U.S. in the upcoming time. 

There are a number of potential cooperative opportunities for both sides, asserted Mr. Mnuchin, expressing his hope to soon visit Viet Nam to boost these cooperative opportunities to make the U.S. become the top trade and investment partner of Viet Nam. 

He highly praised the proposal of Deputy PM Hue, confirming to assign the U.S. relevant agencies to tackle the issue. 

He thanked Viet Nam for strictly implementing resolutions of the United Nations Security Council related to nuclear weapon programs in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
