Deputy PM Dam congratulated Ambassador Craig Chittick for his successful mission in Viet Nam with positive contributions to consolidating and boosting the relations between Viet Nam and Australia.

The host leader stressed that the friendship medal which Ambassador Craig Chittick was awards represented the recognition of the State and Government of Viet Nam for his contributions.

Mr. Dam expressed his satisfaction at the development in the bilateral ties in various fields including trade, national defense, security, and education.

Over the past three years (2016-2018), the two-way trade turnover yearly grew 17%. Some Vietnamese agricultural products namely litchi, mango, and dragon fruits were permitted to enter Australian market, promising goods signals for others.

In the coming time, the two sides would conduct practical measures to facilitate two-way trade and investment activities and optimize multilateral agreements which they are signatories especially within the framework of the CPTPP.

In addition, the cooperation in national defense and security has been more and more effective. Australia proactively supports Viet Nam to train and transport the Vietnamese peace keeping force to the UN in South Sudan.

Deputy PM Dam highly spoke of Australia’s ODA provision for Viet Nam. He hopes that the Australian Government would attach more attention to Viet Nam’s key areas including infrastructure, poverty reduction, climate change response, and competitiveness improvement.

He suggested Australia support Viet Nam in manpower training especially the youth contingent, innovative program, scientific and technological research.

In reply, Ambassador Craig Chittick said that the similarities and good sentiments among the two peoples have brought Viet Nam and Australia closer.

The outgoing Ambassador affirmed that in any position, he would continue to contribute to nurturing the strategic partnership between the two countries./.
