DPM pays official visits to Poland, Italy

VGP – Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh will lead a Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to pay official visits to Poland and Italy from September 19 at the invitation of the Governments of Poland and Italy.

As scheduled, Deputy PM Binh will hold talks with Polish counterpart, meet the Senate Speaker and Chief of the Chancellery of the President, attend the Viet Nam-Poland economic cooperation forum and meet the Poland-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians' Groups. 

Poland is currently the largest trade partner of Viet Nam in the Eastern Europe and Viet Nam ranks third among largest trade partners of Poland in Southeast Asia. 

The two nations established diplomatic ties in 1950 and have promoted the traditional and multi-faceted relations over the recent years. 

In 2017, the two-way trade value reached US$1.005 billion, of which Viet Nam gained US$775 million from exporting. 

The two-way trade turnover in the first half of 2018 was estimated at US$680 million. 

Since 1960, Poland has trained more than 4,000 Vietnamese scientific students and 3,500 skilled workers. At present, as many as 35,000 Overseas Vietnamese are living in Poland. 

In Italy, Deputy PM Binh will hold talks with Italian Deputy PM, Minister of Economic Development, Labor and Social Policies Luigi Di Maio, meet Senate speaker Casellati, President of the Italy-ASEAN Association and some Italian businesses. 

In Rome, he will meet Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.

During the visit to Italy, the Deputy PM will witness the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding on anti-corruption between the Government Inspectorate of Viet Namand the Italian National Anti-Corruption Authority.   

Viet Nam and Italy set up diplomatic ties in 1973. In 2013, the two sides inked the Joint Statement on the Viet Nam - Italy strategic partnership on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to Italy. 

The two nations have established a number of mechanisms such as the foreign deputy ministerial-level strategic dialogue, deputy ministerial-level defense policy dialogue and the joint committee on economic cooperation. 

Both sides have maintained high-ranking visits and enhanced people-to-people exchanges over the recent years. 

As of the end of 2017, Italy ranked 32 among 128 nations and territories investing in Viet Nam with US$388 million in 86 projects. The two-way trade value reached US$4.7 billion in 2016, US$4.4 billion in 2017 and US$2.5 billion in the first seven months of 2018. 

The Vietnamese delegation includes Government Inspector General Le Minh Khai, Deputy Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court Le Hong Quang, Vice Chairman of Government Office Nguyen Duy Hung, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, Deputy Minister of Justice Nguyen Khanh Ngoc and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An.
