DPM pays official visit to NZ

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh paid an official tour to New Zealand from December 1-3 at the invitation of Kiwi FM Murray McCully.

Deputy PM Minh separately met with New Zealander Speaker of the House of Representatives David Carter and Deputy PM, Minister of Finance Bill English.

Mr. Minh gave his regards from Vietnamese leaders and people to the Government, Congress, and people of New Zealand on the recent quake in November 4 in Christchurch city. He was convinced that victims in affected areas would early surmount difficulties and stabilize lives.

Both sides acknowledged the robust developments in the bilateral ties, especially following the establishment of the comprehensive partnership in 2009 and the issuance of the Joint Declaration on March, 2015.  

For his part, New Zealander Speaker of the House of Representatives David Carter praised the fine comprehensive partnership between Viet Nam and New Zealand.

Deputy PM, Minister of Finance Bill English hailed Viet Nam’s encouraging achievements in economic restructuring, transformation of the growth modal.

New Zealand hopes to shake hands with Viet Nam in the areas of economics, finance, banking, SOEs restructuring, he added.

The Kiwi leader also pledged to stand by Viet Nam during the growth process via ODA provision for the recipient country.

Deputy PM Minh called on the two sides to beef up economic and commercial ties and strive for a two-way trade turnover of US$ 1.7 billion by 2020.

The guest leader took the occasion to seek New Zealand’s support to speed up risk assessment process for made-in-Viet Nam agricultural products and open its market.

Mr. Minh proposed the two countries strengthen business connectivity in such areas as banking, service, renewable energy, especially wind power and fields of New Zealand’s strengths.

Both sides also discussed Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, regional and international issues of common concern./.
