DPM meets Norwegian, Irish counterparts at ASEM FMM13

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on November 21 met with Norwegian FM Ine Eriksen Soreide and Irish Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ciaran Cannon on the sidelines of the 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM FMM13) in Myanmar’s capital city of Nay Pyi Taw on November 21.

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh meets Norwegian FM Ine Eriksen Soreide, Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, November 21, 2017

At the meeting with Norwegian FM Ine Eriksen Soreide, the two sides highly valued the active development in the two nations’ traditional relationship, consenting to enhance cooperation in fields of trade, investment, maritime economics, education and training. 

Appraising crucial contributions of Norway to realizing the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at global level, Deputy PM Minh proposed Norway continue sponsors for Viet Nam to implement the SDGs, especially those in health, education, clean water and environmental sanitation. 

Ms. Ine Eriksen Soreide asserted that Norway attaches importance to the relations with Viet Nam in both bilateral and multi-lateral aspects, confirming to strengthen cooperation with Viet Nam in such areas as ship building, renewable energy, petrol and aquatic processing. 

She expressed her thanks for Viet Nam to advocate the establishment of ASEAN-Norway Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, committing to urging the early signing the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement. 

During his meeting with Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh, Irish Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ciaran Cannon lauded the multi-faceted relationship and effective cooperation at multi-lateral forums between Viet Nam and Ireland over the recent years, including mechanisms of the United Nations, expressing his desires to expand cooperation with Viet Nam in fields of economics, trade, education and training. 

He hoped that Viet Nam will facilitate agricultural and high-tech products from Norway to get access to Vietnamese market. 

The Vietnamese Deputy PM suggested the two nations’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs effectively launch the Cooperation Strategy in 2017-2020 phase, expressing gratitude for Ireland to supply  €7.5 million per year in Official Development Assistance for Viet Nam. 

Deputy PM Minh required Ireland to strengthen cooperation and support for Viet Nam in poverty reduction, human resource development and SDGs realization.
