DPM meets Lao leaders

VGP – Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on December 11 paid courtesy visits to Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith within the framework of his working visit to Laos.

At the meeting with the Lao Party General Secretary and President, Binh reported the outcomes of his talks with Lao Deputy PM Bunthong Chitmany, adding that the two sides’ ministries and agencies are actively launching agreements reached by senior leaders and making preparations for crucial diplomatic events in early 2020, including the 42th session of the inter-Governmental Committee. 

Laos leaders welcomed the Vietnamese Deputy PM’s first visit to Laos, expecting that the visit will contribute to stepping up the relations between the two nations. 

The Lao Party, State and people always attach importance and give top priority to consolidating and strengthening the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam, they confirmed. 

They expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their assistance for Lao during its national establishment and development. 

Bounnhang Vorachith proposed the two sides share experience in preparing for the Party Congress at all levels and join hands in organizing big anniversaries in 2020.  

He suggested the two sides build the border lines of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and comprehensive development, paying attention to improving lives of people living at border areas and coordinating in addressing issues related to free migration, unregistered marriage, citizenship and drug prevention and control. 

The Lao leader said he will continue facilitating the Overseas Vietnamese living in Laos to stabilize their lives and make contributions to Lao socio-economic development.

Lao PM Thongloun Sisoulith spoke highly of the talks between Deputy PM Binh and his Lao counterpart, affirming to create favorable conditions for the two sides’ ministries and agencies to realize outcomes gained during the visit. 

He agreed to maintain high-ranking delegation exchanges and visits and prepare for the 42nd session of the inter-Governmental Committee next year. 

He asked for the early completion of crucial projects, including Ha Noi-Vientiane expressway and Vientiane-Vung Ang railway project. 

Regarding multi-lateral cooperation, the Vietnamese Deputy PM thanked Laos for backing Viet Nam to win the non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in w2020-2021 period.  

Lao leaders confirmed to continue close cooperation and support for Viet Nam to perform their new role and preside over the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 as well as strengthen cooperation in sub-regional mechanisms.
