VGP - Deputy PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc highly valued efforts made by localities in reducing traffic accidents in the first months of this year.

The Deputy PM made the statement in the Teleconference on Traffic Safety in the first quarter of 2012 with leaders of 63 provinces and cities in the nation.

In the first two months of 2012, 1,940 accidents were reported, taking the lives of 1,665 people and injuring 1,481 others, which were lower than the same period last year, according to the Minister of Transport Đinh La Thăng.

34 provinces succeeded in reducing the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries and 51 provinces were successful in curbing the dead toll.

If we are determined, targets proposed by the National Assembly to decrease traffic accidents, dead toll and injuries by 5-10% will be achieved, the Minister said.

Authorities of all the cities and provinces have to take a high sense of responsibilities in implementing synchronously solutions for this work.
