Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on April 12 held talks with British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond.

The two sides exchanged issues related to bilateral relationship and those of international and regional concerns.

Basing on the growing political relations, economic cooperation, trade and investment are priorities in the two nations’ relationship.

The two sides agreed to facilitate their businesses' efforts to promote investment and bring into full play advantages and opportunities brought by the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement.

The host and the guest hailed the fast and effective development in the two nations’ cooperation in education and exchanged measures to expand cooperation in training and high-quality human resource development in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese side expected to increase the number of Vietnamese students in the UK and accelerate cooperative programs in education such as the Viet Nam-UK University, said the Deputy PM.

He suggested the UK consider the implementation of specific projects to help overcome consequences of climate change in the Mekong Delta.

He proposed the British Government facilitate 4,000 Vietnamese studying and working in the UK and the granting of visas for Vietnamese to enter the UK.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides said  disputes must be dealt with peaceful measures, referring to the prevention of activities to complicate the situations and respect for international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982).

Mr. Philip Hammond affirmed that his visit to Viet Nam delivered te UK's policy of developing the partnership with Viet Nam in the context that the UK is establishing Strategic Partnership relations with nations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Though two-way trade turnover doubled since 2010, there are a lot of opportunities for British enterprises to exploit in Viet Nam in fields of infrastructure, high technology, health care, energy and finance.

The UK is willing to assist Viet Nam in integrating into the global economy, a process that helps Viet Nam maintain the outstanding economic growth over the recent 20 years, he added.

The guest confirmed that the UK maintains the steady viewpoint that disputes in the East Sea must be addressed in line with international regulations, especially the UNCLOS 1982.
