DPM greets former U.S. Secretary of State

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh hosted a reception for former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry who was on a working visit to Viet Nam from January 16-18.

The host leader expressed the pleasure to meet Mr. John Kerry in Ha Noi on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the normalization of Viet Nam-U.S. trade relations. He also highly valued his guest’s decades-long efforts and contributions to the promotion of the bilateral ties while serving as U.S. Secretary of State and as a senator. He also welcomed Kerry’s continued attention to Viet Nam. 

The Deputy PM briefed his guest on the recent developments in the Viet Nam-US relationship and plans to advance the two countries’ connections in the coming time, Minh applauded the recent progress in bilateral cooperation in education, environmental protection, and water resources development, in particular the projects of the Fulbright University Viet Nam and the Lower Mekong Initiative. 

In reply, the guest leader showed his satisfaction at the substantive development of the Viet Nam-U.S. comprehensive partnership. He also vowed to spare no effort to help strengthen the bilateral ties. 

The former Secretary also thanked the Vietnamese Government and Foreign Ministry for supporting educational cooperation projects, including the Fulbright University Viet Nam, expressing his belief that these projects will contribute to Viet Nam’s development and bilateral relations in the future. 

Mr. John Kerry also stressed the importance of clean and renewable energy to the sustainable socio-economic development of both countries. He said he is ready to continue assisting Viet Nam in renewable energy development and the attraction of external resources to this sector./.
